Dont recollect much now but some land marks were:
- Went to school – kathleeshwar at Tankipora, Srinagar J&K, a co ed school
- In the 6th standard – changed to National High School, Karan Nagar, Srinagar, J&K India – all boys school.
- Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru died on 27th May 1965 – I remember the day very well, beccause same day I operated for Tonsilites
- My mother was the only one knew very well during this period
- Teachers I remember most were:
- Pt. P N Dullu – who taught me whatever English I know today.
- Sh Pushkar Nath Fotedar – our House Master, Budshah House – who taught me debating and made me a smart young boy. Most of my smartness is attributable to him. he taught me logic – he would eat Lamb on Ashtami – some thing that was considered the ultimate sin in life. He showed me how to look up and not down
- Sh. J N Kachroo – the school principal, who taught me need for knoweldge and confidence
- Events I remember most
- Stood Third in my Frist Debate on Jawahar Lal Nehru’s Death anniversary. Failed badely in the Second debate owing to over confidence from the first one. stood FIRST in the 3rd one having learnt from over confidence. My elder brother wrote the speeches for me.
- Secured 595 out of 850 in Matricluation from J&K Board of Secondary Education my roll number was 18101 and exam centre was Islamia School.
- This was 70% but was still not in the First 20 – which meant the hope of the National Schlorship – dream from childhood was shattred. But luck would have it I became eligebile since I figured in the 20 Merit Cum Means list. The amont was INR 60 (apprx USD 1) per month. This was big money then.
- Strange how one remembers what happened 40 years back much better than what happened yesretday evening
